Deshaun Watson won’t let things slide if he’s handed a yearlong suspension by the NFL over sexual misconduct as he plans to drag the NFL to court if he gets suspended for a whole season via the New York Post;
It appears the book will not be closed on the Deshaun Watson saga even after arbitrator Sue Robinson hands down her suspension decision.
Yahoo Sports reported that Watson, along with the NFLPA, will sue the NFL in federal court if he ends up getting suspended for a full season, which is believed to be a legitimate possibility.
Robinson’s recommendation is expected to come within the next week and will probably overlap with the beginning of the Browns training camp, the report stated. If the NFL isn’t satisfied with her decision, they then could appeal for a longer suspension.
Watson, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by dozens of women but has not faced criminal charges, settled 20 of the 24 civil cases against him (some of the accusers are not involved in the legal filings), though the NFL can still suspend him under their personal conduct policy.
Watson’s salary with the Browns for this season is a measly $1,035,000, likely structured that way with the expectation he would receive a lengthy suspension in 2022. He signed a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract with Cleveland after he was traded by the Texans.
The Texans have settled all their cases, but Watson still has four open cases.
“I will have no further comment on the allegations or the Texans’ role, other than to say that there is a marked contrast in the way in which the Texans addressed these allegations, and the way in which Watson’s team has done so. As previously reported, only one of the 30 women who made allegations against the Texans filed a formal lawsuit. That particular lawsuit will be dismissed with prejudice as soon as the appropriate settlement paperwork is complete.
“It takes an incredible amount of fortitude for a victim of sexual misconduct to come forward. It is even more difficult when the alleged wrongdoer is famous, rich, and powerful. As I’ve said before, these cases started with one phone call, from one brave and strong woman: Ashley Solis. Because of her willingness to speak out, soon others followed. I admire Ashley Solis and the other woman who were courageous enough to make their voices heard. I hope their bravery serves as an example to others who have been subjected to similar conduct. Every story has a hero – in this story, that hero is Ashley Solis and the other woman who, despite the ridicule, criticism, and vitriol directed at them, endured.
“The four filed cases against Deshaun Watson will continue. We hope to try them all in the spring of next year. In the meantime, we will continue to do the important work to prepare for such.”
Watson had his attorneys have never denied that at times he had happy endings or dry humped tables during massages, but that any and all actions were consensual and facilitated by the women and not Watson.
