Before Kevin Samuels, there was Kim Burrell! In viral video clips, Gospel Singer Kim Burrell was heard hitting hard at churchgoers, calling them ugly and smelly. She also made some homophobic remarks via MTO News;
Gospel singer Kim Burrell is continuing to face a huge backlash from her fans and her congregation – after old videos surfaced, showing Kim behaving in an un-Christian-like manner.
Kim went viral last week, after a video purporting to show her telling her church followers not to be friends with poor people. Kim apologized for her comments, and claimed that her words were “taken out of context.”
Well Media Take Out uncovered more videos – with Kim saying more things that are very controversial. In one sermon she gave, from many years ago, she blasted members o her church for smelling badly.
In yet another video, which Media Take Out uncovered, Kim called out members of her church for being “ugly.”
And in more videos – which may be the most problematic for Kim – she expressed some controversial opinions on homosexuality – and the pace of gays in the church. Kim has recently walked back her anti-gay past comments.
Wow, if you are unfamiliar with Kim Burrell.
Kimberly Jean Burrell is an American Grammy–nominated gospel singer-songwriter, producer and pastor from Houston, Texas, United States.
Born Kimberly Jean Burrell on August 27, 1972 in Houston, Texas, Burrell was one of four children born to Julius Burrell Jr., a pastor and Helen Ruth Graham, an evangelist singer in The Church of God in Christ. As a youth, Burrell began performing with Reverend James Cleveland’s GMWA Youth Mass Choir (also known as Rev. James Cleveland’s Kids).
In December 2016, a video surfaced showing Burrell preaching a sermon at the Love & Liberty Fellowship Church. In that sermon, she called people who engage in homosexual acts “perverted” and said they had been deceived by the “homosexual spirit.” She also warned that people who “play with” homosexual sin would “die from it” in 2017. In response to considerable criticism, Burrell said that she makes “no excuses or apologies” for the sermon, adding “I love you, and God loves you, but he hates the sin in you and me.” Shortly after the video of the sermon surfaced, The Ellen DeGeneres Show cancelled Burrell’s scheduled appearance, as did the BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music event, where she was removed as an honoree. Her radio talk show, Bridging the Gap with Kim Burrell, was cancelled by Texas Southern University.
In July 2022, Burrell faced backlash for making remarks about “broke” and “ugly” churchgoers in addition to promoting anti-masking and anti-vaccination with respect to COVID-19.
