According to Ric Bucher of Fox Sports, the Cleveland Cavaliers allegedly sent Donovan Mitchell to the Cleveland Cavaliers as “payback.” Ric claims Utah was upset with the trade request made by Mitchell, which pushed them to send him to the Cleveland Cavaliers as a “payback” via HHH.
Just last week, the Cleveland Cavaliers made a huge trade to acquire none other than Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell had wanted out of Utah ever since the team traded away Rudy Gobert, and as expected, the Jazz got a huge haul of draft picks and even some players.
Cleveland turned out to be an interesting location for Mitchell when you consider how everyone thought he would go to the Knicks or even the Miami Heat. Instead, the Jazz sent Mitchell to the destination that has the least amount of sex appeal, even if the roster is ready to do some damage with Mitchell on it.
According to Ric Bucher of Fox Sports, the Jazz sent Mitchell to Cleveland out of spite. Bucher claims that Jazz brass were upset over Mitchell’s trade request and they wanted to get back at him somehow. Sending him to the Cavaliers was a way to do that especially since Mitchell wanted to go back home closer to New York.
In the end, Mitchell still wins as the Cavaliers have a much better roster right now than the Knicks. In the immediate future, Mitchell will have more success, which means the Jazz didn’t really get much “payback.”
Here is the problem with the Jazz plan. The Cavs are a much better team than the Knicks. Granted, Mitchell won’t be able to go to Times Square or have the nightlife opportunities, but it is 2022. These guys fly to Cabo between road trips, so I don’t think he is tripping about that.
In the end, Mitchell won’t have to deal with the NY media or the crazy expectation of dragging a franchise to the playoffs. I am not sure if he is that type of player. He needs a good team around him, and he has that in Cleveland.
