The Dolphins are in a bit of a funk after losing to the Packers on Christmas, which was their 4th straight loss and puts their playoff hopes in jeopardy.
To make things worse, they may be without their QB, Tua Tagovailoa, because he is now in the NFL’s concussion protocol a day after the loss. Head coach Mike McDaniel said on Monday that Tua admitted to team doctors that he was having concussion symptoms which means backup Teddy Bridgwater will take first-team snaps until Tua is ready to return.
This is the second time Tua will be placed in the concussion protocol, which is also a problem for the NFL because they missed the hit that should have sent him into the protocol during the game. If you look at the film from the game, it seems like he got the concussion in the 2nd quarter when he was hit, and his head hit the ground. He also didn’t play well after the hit.
He threw three interceptions, and he was having trouble remembering plays. The fact that the concussion spotter, the coaches, and his teammates reported anything or even checked to see if he was okay is troubling.
It’s also not a good thing for Tua because this can become a huge problem considering it’s his second documented concussion this season.
One has to wonder if Tua will ever be able to have a productive career because of the concussions. More importantly, you have to wonder about Tua’s long-term health. Brain injuries are not something you want to play around with. Tua will have to think hard this offseason if it is worth continuing to play football when he has his whole life ahead of him.
