Well, that’s what Philadelphia Eagles defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson has experienced, as his Kia was stolen on Monday, just two days after the Eagles made it to the NFC Championship Game.
Philly fans are notoriously hard to please. So stealing a football player’s car after a loss would have been understandable, by their standards. But after a win?
CJ has posted a video in which he claims he knows exactly who stole his car, which is great. Fans, on the other hand, seemed more concerned about the fact that he drives (or used to drive) a Kia.
Kia’s are apparently very easy to steal and it’s claimed that thefts have spiked following a viral TikTok video showing how to break into multiple models using a USB cable and a screwdriver.
This is all because of TikTok.
Kia and Hyundai owners across the country are fed up. This year some cities have seen a sharp rise in theft of these vehicles. In Minneapolis, police say it’s all because of a social media challenge.
Police say thieves are targeting these vehicles because they are much easier to steal. Kia and Hyundai models made between 2010 and 2021 without a push button to start can be hot-wired with only a USB cable and a screwdriver.
No new car made in the last 5 years should have a metal key starter in my opinion.
