Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown did a live recently, once again deflecting blame onto someone else for his own actions. Who was it this time? Former teammate James Harrison. Brown accuses Harrison of being responsible for giving him Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). CTE is a brain condition believed to be linked to repeated head injuries and blows to the head. It slowly gets worse over time, and is said to lead to dementia, but the right help and support can manage the symptoms.
“I wanted to tell you guys that I think James Harrison gave me CTE. James Harrison had an illegal helmet for over 20 years in the NFL. And he hit me one time. And ever since he hit me I’ve been super aggressive. So blame James Harrison for my CTE.”
Additionally, Brown claims that Harrison was using an illegal helmet when he was in the league for over twenty years.
He’s clearly ruled out former Cincinnati Bengals player Vontaze Burfict, whose career is widely known for the hit he gave to Brown during one of their rivalry games. Harrison used to play for the Steelers alongside Brown, so the alleged incident would have most likely have occurred during team practice. Maybe even during training camp. Still, whether it was Vontaze Burfict, or James Harrison, to put blame on someone else for your own actions is not only irresponsible but also crazy.
Brown chose to ragequit on the Bucs during the middle of a game against the New York Jets. Brown decided to get himself removed off the Las Vegas Raiders. Not to mention Brown is constantly on the wrong side of legal matters, including selling someone a fake Richard Millie watch.
How long is Brown going to continue pointing the finger at someone else for issues that he’s caused? There’s also no concrete proof that Harrison was even responsible for giving Brown CTE. Unless he comes forward with something that adds some level of credibility to his story, Brown is dragging the name of his former teammate through the mud unnecessarily.
