Over the course of his career, Tom Brady was seen as THE top guy in the National Football League. That still seems to be the case, despite going from one sports family to another. The downside about coming in as THE top guy, in this case, is that it’s hurting somebody else.
Greg Olsen, according to reports, is not only scheduled to have his salary greatly reduced but also move from the number 1 team to the number 2 team. Brady would come in and take over Olsen’s spot on the 1 team. Olsen will go from making $10 million in salary to only $3 million.
Brady signed a massive 10-year, $375 million contract to come to Fox as the network’s lead NFL analyst following the conclusion of his playing career. Olsen had this to say about Brady taking over his spot when speaking on ESPN 1000.
“We all know the reality. I know what I signed up for this year,” Olsen said. “My goal, and I said this before the season even started, was to try to do the best job that I could. Give people a fun listen. Give people maybe a different perspective and insight into the game.”
“Listen, if Brady ends up retiring and coming and decides that’s how everything unfolds, it sucks. But at the end of the day I’m a big boy. I took a chance on myself. Rolled the dice. We’ll see how it plays out.”
Olsen continued on to say, “Listen, if Brady ends up retiring and coming and decides that’s how everything unfolds, it sucks. But at the end of the day, I’m a big boy. I took a chance on myself. Rolled the dice. We’ll see how it plays out.”
Olsen deserves better than this. It’s like he’s being punished for doing a good job. I know it’s Tom Brady, and his name alone carries a lot of weight in the football world, but we don’t know yet how good he’ll be as an analyst.
