League sources have something on that one team pursuing a trade for Kevin Durant after Kyrie Irving’s deal with the Dallas Mavericks. According to TPS;
One dominoe has fallen as Kyrie Irving got dealt in a trade to the Dallas Mavericks after he and the Brooklyn Nets could not come to term on a new deal. Moments after they traded the talented yet polarizing Kyrie Irving, many wondered what would become of Kevin Durant.
The Phoenix Suns are prepared to pursue star forward Kevin Durant if he becomes available, according to TNT’s Chris Haynes.
“The Phoenix Suns are prepared to pursue Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant should he become available, league sources tell (NBA on TNT and Bleacher Report),” Haynes wrote.
Durant requested a trade during the offseason and reportedly had the Suns atop of his list of desired destinations. He would soon rescind his request and state he was committed to the Nets.
Durant, who has been sidelined due to an injury, has missed the last 12 games after playing 39 of the first 40. The Nets were looking like a title contender, but with the loss of Irving, the team will have to fight to stay in the playoff picture.
Kevin Durant, in his 3.5 seasons with the team, has been limited to just 129 games. The Nets have lost James Harden and Kyrie Irving, and are likely to lose Durant as well. All of this movement and this team never got close to sniffing the NBA Finals.
The Brooklyn ship appears to be sinking hard.
According to WOJ, the Nets have been in communication with KD about what needs to be done to keep him around for the long term and to make sure he doesn’t ask for a trade in the offseason.
It will be very interesting to see what they Nets do at the trade deadline.
