Colin Cowherd Says Michael Jordan’s Career Would Be Average If Not for Scottie Pippen and Phil Jackson

This isn’t a smart take, but it will get people talking, which is the most important thing in sports media these days.

It is a straw argument that you can use for anything elite athlete, especially in basketball.

If you take the star players and good coaches away from any NBA player, they likely wouldn’t have the success they had.

Here is what Colin Cowherd had to say about Michael Jordan.

“He tried baseball. He failed. He tried ownership. He was awful. He tried the Wizards. It bombed. Everybody understand, take out Scottie Pippen & Phil Jackson, this whole Michael Jordan mythology is sort of just that.”

This all came about because Jordan was thinking about selling his ownership stake in the Hornets.

Michael Jordan, the North Carolina native who bought the Hornets and is the only black majority owner of an NBA team, is in talks to sell his shares of the franchise, according to an unexpected report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan is engaged in serious talks to sell a majority stake in the franchise to a group led by Hornets minority owner Gabe Plotkin and Atlanta Hawks minority owner Rick Schnall, sources told ESPN on Thursday.

No deal is imminent, but there’s significant momentum on a sale that would eventually install Plotkin and Schnall as the co-governors of the Hornets, sources said.

Jordan reportedly would hold on to a minority share of the team.

The reason why this way of thinking is it goes both ways. What would Phil Jackson be without Jordan, Pippen, Shaq, and Kobe? What type of career would Pippen have had without Jordan? Would he be a top 75 player of all time and a Hall of Famer? I would have to guess no, and he definitely wouldn’t have six rings.

This is nothing to get up in arms over, just another hot take to get the people going.
