There are many things that can make a fight compelling. Sometimes it’s a belt. Sometimes two men claim that they are the best in the division and there is only one way to settle that claim. For this fight, it is pure hatred.
Simply stated, super middleweight boxers David Benavidez and Caleb Plant do not like each other. They have years of bad history, including social media talks, trash talking through interviews and even some run ins.
The first and most notable of these run ins took place in the gym. If you haven’t seen the video, watch it here.
Since this time, David Benavidez and Caleb Plant have taken shots at each other every chance that they get. The hatred is further fueled by the fact that they are in the same weight class and considered by many as two of the top fighters at 168. They are also both former titleholders.
David Benavidez and Caleb Plant hatred stems from competition. Both say that they are the best in the division. Both can’t be true. And finally, after years and years of talk, the men will step into the ring, and settle their score.
Too often in boxing these days, fans know who will win the fight before the opening bell. In this case, this is a true 50/50 fight.
David Benavidez is called the Mexican Monster for a reason. He is relentless. Benavidez is big, tall, strong and full of determination and grit. Benavidez stalks fighters in the ring, walking through punches and breaking down his opponents with pressing combinations and impressive hand speed. David Benavidez walks forward and does not let up.
Caleb Plant on the other hand is known for his IQ, his defense prowess, killer reflexes, and impeccable timing. Plant has incredible hand speed, and brilliant footwork. All things that are historically known to neutralize a come forward fighter.
There are few things as interesting as a good grudge match, and this one is as good as it comes. Tune in March 25 on Showtime PPV to find out who is the better man.
