When news initially broke out that NBA legend Shawn Kemp was arrested in connection to a drive-by shooting that took place in Seattle at the Tacoma Mall, people on social media went crazy. If you’re not familiar with whom this man is, he was a first-round pick in the 1989 NBA Draft. The 6-time NBA All-Star brought greatness to the Seattle SuperSonics, helping them reach the NBA Finals in 1996.
He’s also known for his work off the field, with his most recent work steered towards bringing the Sonics franchise back to city of Seattle. According to new reports released by Seattle’s FOX 13 news, Kemp may have been shooting in self-defense.
He’s what BetUS Sportsbook & Casino had to say about it on Twitter via quote retweet:
“Seattle’s FOX 13 reports that its sources say Shawn Kemp had an iPhone stolen from him & tracked it to this mall. When he approached the vehicle, a suspect shot at him & he fired back. In Washington state, firing a gun next to your vehicle is also considered a drive-by shooting.”
They retweeted a post by BetUS NBA, which contains two videos of the incident involving Kemp. In the first video, you can see Kemp shooting at a vehicle. The second clip shows Kemp arguing with the driver of the vehicle, who had briefly stepped out to exchange words then got back in his car and sped off as police were arriving on the scene. You can see Kemp pointing at the getaway driver as, urging to police to get him at the same time.
Thankfully, nobody was injured, and the police were able to take Kemp into custody without incident. Kemp’s been in some legal trouble before. He was arrested in both 2005 for drug possession, and 2006 for a separate drug-related investigation that took place in the state of Texas.
Let’s hope they catch the other guy.
