Remember that guy that’s scheduled to have a boxing match with Jake Paul this upcoming August in Dallas, Texas? Yeah, Nate Diaz. Well, recent reports say that Diaz gave himself up to the New Orleans Police Department early Thursday morning. The 38-year-old UFC legend had a warrant issued out for his arrest, after he was involved in a physical altercation with a man named Robert Petersen last weekend.
There was a video involving Diaz that recently went viral on social media. In the video, you can see Diaz being confronted on Bourbon Street. The end result? Diaz choked the guy out with a guillotine submission, put him right to sleep. Then, when he went to turn him loose, the back of Petersen’s head ended up hitting the pavement. Diaz turned himself in at the New Orleans Police Department Sixth District station without incident.
Here’s an official quote from the written statement issued by Diaz’ representative Zach Rosenfield:
“Nate voluntarily turned himself into the New Orleans Police Department [Thursday] morning. We continue to look forward to presenting all the evidence and videos that show Nate was acting in self-defense.”
After being transported to the Orleans Justice Center and booked, Diaz was able to post a $10,000 bond and was released. Rosenfield expressed gratitude towards the NOLA PD for their handling of the situation involving both himself and his client.
According to reports, Diaz’s lawyer is eager to present all of the facts about the incident to the District Attorney. The evidence shows that a trained fighter named Rodney Petersen aggressively pursued Nate with the intention of engaging him. In self-defense, Nate acted appropriately, and his lawyer intends to demonstrate this clearly.
After reviewing the video, it appears that Diaz did not intend to cause physical harm to the back of his opponent’s head. However, engaging in a street fight is not a recommended course of action.
