Memphis Grizzlies Star Ja Morant isn’t taking this lawsuit by Josh Holloway lightly. Not only is the NBA star denying all the allegations made by the prosecutors, he’s also filing a countersuit. Holloway is the teenage boy that reportedly was involved in the incident with Morant back in July 2022. The incident in question revolves around a game of pickup Basketball that was said to have taken place at Morant’s home.
The prosecutor reportedly claimed that Morant physically assaulted him after he had unintentionally hit Morant in the chin with the ball while attempting to check it to him. The mother went as far as to push for criminal charges against both Morant and his friend Davonte Pack. Unfortunately for the prosecutors, police found there to be a lack of evidence. Here is what Morant is claiming in his countersuit, according to James Herbert of CBS Sports:
Morant said that Holloway:
- Intentionally threw a basketball at his face, which could have ended Morant’s career.
- Walked aggressively toward Morant with his fists clenched, as if he were about to hit him.
- Threatened to return to Morant’s house and light it up “like a firework show,” as he left.
- Threatened Morant again in a Snapchat post.
- Lied to police about Morant flashing a gun.
- Violated a court order by leaking details of a sealed case to the media.
- Caused Morant to be “subjected to castigation and ridicule” and made him suffer both “personal humiliation” and “impairment of the character and reputation that he has worked for years to build in the Memphis community,” while making him “more circumspect” when dealing with the media.
- Cost Morant money by hurting his chances to make an All-NBA team this season.
Morant insists that he only struck Holloway and that one strike was purely out of self-defense. It’s obviously too soon to tell how this case will go, but I’m sure we’ll have those answers later rather than sooner.
