Instagram star Bri Teresi has sever ties with lingerie firm Honey Birdette. This comes on the heels of Birdette hiring non-binary, biological male model Jake Dupree to promote its women’s underwear via the Daily Mail;
A popular Instagram star severed ties with a lingerie brand after it used a non-binary, biological male model to advertise its women’s underwear.
Bri Teresi, a fashion influencer outspoken about her conservative views, announced she was cutting ties with the brand Honey Birdette after it posted pictures of non-binary model Jake Dupree modeling a red bra, panties, and girder-belt in a post promoting LQBTQ+ inclusivity.
Teresi, who boasts 1.4million followers on Instagram, said the post was ‘pure misogyny,’ and told Fox News Honey Birdette had robbed a woman of work by giving ad-space to a biological male.
She also pointed out that Honey Birdette’s bio on Instagram previously said it was ‘by women, for women,’ but now reads ‘a luxury lingerie brand for all!’ Teresi said she was ‘infuriated’ by the decision of the brand, which she said she worked with for three years while wearing about $40,000 worth of their products.
Honey Birdette told Fox News they had never worked with Teresi, and said they have always promoted both the LGBTQ+ communities and women. They characterized Teresi’s words as an ‘attack’ in a statement to Fox News.
The controversy comes after Nike sparked controversy by using trans woman Dylan Mulvaney to advertise their women’s sports attire.
When the post featuring Dupree was first made in April, Teresi commented ‘Sad to see you guys jumping on the woke bandwagon! Once again, another thing taken over by men. Know your audience!’
The picture of Dupree feature the caption ‘Red curtain moment!’ and the announcement ‘Honey Birdette fosters an inclusive and diverse environment, and we will continue to use our voice to empower and support the LGBTQ+ community, women, and anyone who wants to feel fabulous in our lingerie.’
It added that negative comments, ‘hate speech’ and ‘bullying’ would not be tolerated on the post. Comments have since been turned off.
Teresi told Fox News that she felt she couldn’t sit down while women’s right were trampled, saying ‘they are trying to get rid of women entirely, I truly believe this.’
‘The only way to stop this nonsense and propaganda is to not support businesses that do not support our values. It’s that simple!’
‘As a model I can tell you that an actual woman has been robbed of a place because of a deluded diversity handout. That’s pure misogyny. Now more than ever, we must support businesses that support our values. Go woke, go broke.’
Honey Birdette, which is headquartered in Australia, said in a statement it disagrees with ‘anyone attacking our inclusive values.’
Teresi said ‘wokeness is a disease,’ and said Honey Birdette was only costing itself customers.
‘Their target audience is no longer going to be purchasing lingerie that’s modeled by a male.’
