When a QB starts to get older, teams normally bring in the guy they want to replace their long time starter.
Teams want the older QB to teach the newly drafted QB the ropes so when the older QB retires the transition goes smoothly. Sometimes it workouts and sometimes it doesn’t.
The Steelers are one of the times it didn’t work out.
While Ben Roethlisberger was with them, they drafted a few QBs who they hoped could be the successor to the 2 time Super Bowl QB but it wasn’t working out. After Ben retired in 2021, the Steelers drafted his hopeful successor Kenny Pickett in the 2022 NFL Draft with the 20th pick in the first round.
Pickett showed a lot of promise and looks like he will be guy to replace Ben.
Ben wasn’t happy at first though.
On a recent episode of his Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger podcast, he talked about how he talked about how he didn’t want Pickett to succeed at first. It was a lot of hating going on from Ben and he says he felt bad about it.
He seems to be happy now.
