Jackson Mahomes, the younger brother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, reportedly appeared in a courtroom on Tuesday afternoon following his arrest in the early parts of May. Jackson currently faces four charges after being taken into police custody, including three counts of aggravated sexual battery, after reports say he forcibly kissed a Kansas City restaurant owner.
Here are some additional details provided by TPS:
“In one of a few public sightings since he was reported in February, Jackson sat in front of a judge to request a modification of his bond, having paid $100,000 to assure his appearance in court.
Jackson asked for his bail conditions to be amended as he sought permission to contact four people he had been banned from speaking to per the terms of his bond. The judge has allowed him to contact three of the four persons.”
The state of Kansas objected to letting one of his friends, who is the former stepdaughter of one of the alleged victims, have contact with Mahomes.
During the hearing, Judge Thomas M. Sutherland granted three of the four friends permission to talk with Mahomes — under the condition they do not discuss the case with Mahomes — but denied permission for the fourth witness who had familial ties to one of the alleged victims.
The state argued she should not have contact with Mahomes because one of the alleged victims was a “mother figure” to her.
The friend told Judge Sutherland that Mahomes and her are “best friends” and that it has been hard for her to not have contact with him during this time.
Jackson is expected to return to court sometime in the month of August.
If I was Patrick, I wouldn’t want to say anything about it either. Though Jackson is ultimately his own person, the Mahomes name has become well-known because of the massive amounts of success Patrick is having in the National Football League. Anything he says about the case at this point will be magnified ten-fold and spread like wildfire across all social media platforms – which would soon turn into a huge distraction on his side. Last thing he needs is any distractions as he’s preparing to start this fall as a defending champion.
Patrick Mahomes is a 2x Super Bowl Champion at the age of 27, putting him in the same company as future NFL Hall of Famer Tom Brady. He’s making generational wealth, setting himself and his family up for the rest of their lives. Including Jackson, before he went and got himself into legal trouble.
