When Will Jimmy Garoppolo Return to Raiders After Having Secret Surgery on His Foot

Reports say Jimmy Garoppolo had a secret surgery right after signing for the Raiders and the time he’s scheduled to return to the field wouldn’t make fans happy. In fact, fans should be concerned about his return timeline.

According to TPS;

Jimmy Garoppolo isn’t involved in the Raiders OTAs this week as he’s recovering from an operation he had on his foot after signing with the team back in March, according to a report from The Athletic.

Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels discussed the matter on Thursday, telling reporters the quarterback underwent the procedure to correct the left foot injury he sustained late last season.

McDaniels did not go into details but admitted that the QB could be out until training camp.

“He’s going through his process just like we knew he would,” the coach explained. “Nothing has happened that would surprise us based on the information we had.”

Garoppolo suffered the injury while playing for the San Francisco 49ers on December 6. It was initially thought that he was dealing with a Lisfranc fracture but team doctors determined otherwise and didn’t recommend surgery, which is required for Lisfranc injuries. He was given a recovery timeline of two months yet was not fully healthy when he signed a three-year deal with the Raiders in March.

The Athletic reports that the injury could have been the cause for his signing and introductory press conference being delayed.

Might Jimmy Garoppolo Miss The Start Of The 2023 Season?

The Raiders aren’t too concerned about Jimmy G possibly missing the start of the season.

“We don’t play a game for 100 days,” McDaniels said. “Everything that’s happened since we signed Jimmy, we knew ahead of time. … Certainly had an awareness of all of it. Our preference is not to push it and rush anybody back at this point in time.”

Even so, fans would be forgiven for being worried given the player’s history with injuries. Garoppolo has missed 31 regular-season games and has suffered three season-ending injuries since he became a starter for the Niners after leaving the Patriots.

Jimmy G has been injury prone so the backup QB should make sure he is ready.
