Beach officials based in Destin, Florida have ruled out a particular cause of death following the shocking news of Ryan Mallett’s passing.
The 35-year-old, a former NFL quarterback, died in a drowning incident at a Florida beach on Tuesday. The former Arkansas star represented the New England Patriots, Houston Texans, and Baltimore Ravens over the span of his career and his death has prompted several sad reactions from around the league.
Mallett had been working as a high school football coach before his untimely passing.
According to Okaloosa County Sheriff Eric Aden, Ryan’s death did not result from rip currents.
“It just seems to be a tragic accident and not something to do with the conditions of the surf, the tides or the currents,” he said, per WEAR NEWS.
Bodycam footage shows an Okaloosa County deputy rushing to help as other first responders try to save Mallett. The former QB was unresponsive when he was pulled out of the Gulf waters and taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Aden also noted that the beach off where Mallett drowned was not under red flags or double red flags.
It’s also believed that heat may have had something to do with his death.
At the time of his tragic passing, Ryan was not married and had no children. Although he married Tiffany Seeley back in 2020, they divorced four months later in the same year with no kids. The former athlete was estimated to be worth $4 million. May his soul rest well!
