For the last few years, the Damian Lillard saga has been a yearly ordeal.
Everyone says he should leave and it gets reported that he’s committed to the franchise and wants to win a championship for Portland.
This year, it seemed like the end was near though. Dame had kind of sent out hints that he wanted to leave but at the same time he mentioned how committed he was to the franchise.
Monday afternoon, it was reported that Dame and his agent were meeting with the team to success the franchise’s direction for the future. That meeting has now ended and Chris Haynes reports that it went well and they had great dialogue and they remain committed to building a winner around Dame.
So it seems that we get another year of the “Will Dame ask out of Portland” saga. Or at least a few more days until free agency starts. It could also run into next season and they trade him at some point before the trade deadline.
It does seem like they are indirectly sending him a message that they want to start over. They have kept their top 10 picks in the last two drafts when they could have traded both away for someone to put around Dame.
For now though, Dame is staying put.
