Netflix Reportedly Wins Bidding For $50 Million 10-part Jerry Jones Docuseries

Billionaire businessman, president, GM, and owner of the Dallas Cowboys team, 80-year-old Jerry Jones and his team, the Dallas Cowboys, have had successful NFL appearances over the years. In fact, Jerry, with the main character vibe, always prides himself on saving the Cowboys and also changing the culture of the NFL for good, ever since he acquired the team back in 1989 and invested in the game. Jerry and Dallas truly deserve some series in their names, and Netflix is making that happen.

Netflix has won the bid for $50 million to produce the story of the Dallas Cowboys and their owner Jerry Jones, who has contributed in many ways to the present-day success of the sport. However, many sports fans fear that, as usual, Jerry is making the series more about himself than the team. As always, this is a period of self-aggrandizing for him and not a collective chance for the team to tell its story in the 10-part docuseries from its prime days.

Details via the New York Post;

NFL fans will get to relive Jerry Jones’ glory days in a 10-episode docuseries after Netflix reportedly won the bidding war for streaming rights with a $50 million offer.

The owner, president and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys has had a movie-script career since purchasing the team in 1989, and the story will now actually hit the screens.

While the deal hasn’t officially been finalized, Netflix allegedly outbid both Amazon and ESPN.

The docuseries will focus on Jones’ Cowboy teams from the 1990s when the franchise won Super Bowls in 1993, 1994 and 1996 –– coming into true form of “America’s Team.”

With the early success, Jones, 80, made NFL history as the first owner to lead his squad to three Super Bowl championships in his first seven years of ownership.

Dallas also became the first team to secure three titles in four years.

Beyond the football accolades, Jones became an icon in and outside the NFL and helped shape the league’s present day culture.

It’s reported the docuseries will have previously unseen interviews with quarterback Troy Aikman, running back Emmitt Smith and wide receiver Michael Irvin — all key pieces to the Cowboys’ reign in the early1990s.

The release timeline for the series has not been shared yet, but the highly anticipated project has already been compared to “The Last Dance.”

NFL Films, in partnership with Skydance Sports, will produce Jones’ story.

Dallas has made it to the postseason 11 times since winning its last Super Bowl in 1996, but has not made deep runs in recent years.

The Cowboys were booted from the divisional round of the 2022 playoffs by the San Francisco 49ers.

Nonetheless, Jones has three NFC championships, 12 NFC divisions championships and three Super Bowls under his belt.

In 2022, Forbes named the Dallas Cowboys the most valuable sports franchise in the world.

Jerry is a self-made billionaire, and frankly, he has done quite a lot to make the sports franchise the most visible in the States. With a milestone as significant as this, anyone can become submerged in his own glory, forgetting all the others that contributed to the success. Sports fans fear that the documentary will be more about Jerry than the team. However, let’s cut the old gee some slack and wait till the documentary is ready for us to make the judgment. The dude is dying; he wants his legacy to live on, and this is the only way.
