Saquon Barkley Speak on Possibly Sitting Out The Season After Not Getting Contract Extension

Every decision in the NFL boils down to money, both from the team’s side and the players’ side!

The New York Giants failed to buy into their running back Saquon Barkley‘s long-term contract offer on the deadline of Monday, July 17, and now Barkley is so frustrated that he is planning to boycott their upcoming games even though he would lose money for it.

While Barkley is hoping for a hefty increment in his contract, the Giants are willing to offer just $10.091 million for the 2023–24 season, an offer almost half of what Barkley is requesting. They are not ready to trade him off either.

While the 26-year-old baller is required to play official matches for the team on the proposed contract, Saquon Barkley is not required to go to the training section with his other teammates. And according to him, he is willing to do more than just miss training sections. Barkley admitted in a recent interview that he has plans to miss out on the entire upcoming season despite the fact that he will lose money. The baller claims that while he is hurt and has thought of boycotting the upcoming season, he will talk to his family first to help make better decisions.

ESPN got details;

Saquon Barkley says he has considered not playing for the New York Giants this season, admitting during a recent interview that he “might have to take it to this level” amid his stalemate with the team over a long-term contract.

Barkley discussed his “leverage” in contract negotiations with the Giants during an appearance on “The Money Matters” podcast that was recorded before Monday’s deadline for franchised players to agree to long-term deals.

The Giants and Barkley did not agree to a deal before the deadline, meaning the star running back will have to play the upcoming season under the $10.091 million franchise tender.

Since he still has not signed the tender, Barkley cannot be fined for missing training camp, which begins for Giants veterans on Tuesday. The two-time Pro Bowler will lose money only if he misses regular-season games and has to forfeit game checks — a possibility he acknowledged he has considered.

“My leverage is I could say, ‘F— you’ to the Giants, I could say, ‘F— you to my teammates,” Barkley told the podcast, which published the July 11 interview on Monday. “And be like, ‘You want me to show you my worth? You want me to show you how valuable I am to the team? I won’t show up. I won’t play a down.’ And that’s a play I could use.

Barkley has a promising career, and while he has to make all the huge checks at the prime of his career before he fades, he does not need to involve emotions in these dealings and start having problems with teams.
