The Arizona Cardinals’ football season has begun, and head coach Jonathan Gannon took the mic at the team’s Tempe headquarters to field questions ahead of his first game week. The Cardinals‘ rookie captain discussed a range of subjects, including his weekend off and getting ready for the Washington Commanders in Week 1.
All Cardinals interrupted Gannon to inquire about the selection of his captains for the 2023 campaign. Gannon acknowledged this, naming six players as captains. They are Kyler Murray, Kyzir White, D.J. Humphries, James Conner, Budda Baker, Dennis Gardeck

Gannon spoke with admiration about his captain : “He’s our franchise quarterback and everything that I want for our captains to be, he demonstrates it,”
After continuing to be on the PUP list, Arizona’s quarterback will miss at least the first four weeks of the season. His return’s schedule is not yet revealed.
The only newcomer to be named a captain is White. Despite the fact that Gannon did not expressly address the selection of captains, it is clear from his statements about Murray that he played a significant role in the decision. With the Philadelphia Eagles last season, White previously played under Gannon. In 2022, Philadelphia did not have a captain like him.
Under former head coach Kliff Kingsbury, every other player served as captain the previous year. For their first game versus Washington, the Cardinals will be travelling.
