UFC sensation Israel Adesanya has found himself in hot water as he recently pleaded guilty to a charge of drink-driving. The incident took place on August 19, 2023, when Adesanya was pulled over for driving with an alcohol level of 87 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood, well above the legal limit of 50 milligrams per 100 millilitres for drivers over the age of 20.
The MMA star made his appearance at the Auckland District Court, where he admitted to the charges on Monday. Adesanya’s lawyer, Karl Trotter, presented a request for no conviction to be entered, which was granted by the judge. Trotter also expressed intentions to seek a discharge without conviction at the upcoming sentencing.
It was an eventful day for Adesanya as he left the Kingston St building after the court appearance, accompanied by a bodyguard and kickboxing coach Mike Angove. The seriousness of the charges looms large, as the maximum penalty for an alcohol level of 87 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood is either three months’ imprisonment or a fine not exceeding $4,500.
