Man Gets Labeled Broke After Refusing To Pay His Wife And Friends Restaurant Bill Of $700

A husband has been tagged as broke after he refused to cough out $700 to pay for his wife and friends’ restaurant bill. His wife expected him to pay the bill but he refused since it didn’t make sense to him to pay the bills of other people who haven’t contributed anything to his life.

The husband saved his $700 and got labeled as broke at the end of it.

For refusing to foot a huge dinner bill, this berated husband is paying the price.

Wining and dining your significant other can be costly — especially if they have champagne tastes and you’re on a beer budget.

But when one hapless hubby balked after being hit with a $700 restaurant bill by his wife, who expected him to pay for both of their meals as well as the entrees her group of gal pals polished off, he was made out to be the “broke” butt of a cruel joke.

“I, a 24-year-old man, and my wife, a 24-year-old female, are a newlywed couple,” explains the rebuked dude in his August post on Reddit’s ever-trending “Am I The A – – hole” thread.

“My wife has four friends who she has been really close with since high school,” he continues. “For a celebration, my wife decided to go to an expensive steak house.”

After chowing down, the guy’s unblushing bride blithely slipped him the massive check and said, “‘The man should always pay for the wife and her friends.’”

But he wasn’t willing to blindly follow her unwritten rule.

“I tell her that the only other person I would pay for would be you and me,” the man recalls.

“Her friends proceeded to laugh at me calling me a broke husband,” he laments. “I stand up and put two $100 bills [down] for me and my wife’s food and [left].”

However, when he stormed out, the dope had no clue that a marital storm was brewing.

“My wife gets home and starts screaming at me, saying I made her feel embarrassed,” states the doomed groom. “How she promised her friends I’d pay. And that her friends made fun for her on the ride home for marrying a man who can’t pay the bill.”

Rather than fighting, he simply fled.

“I decided to pack a bag and head to my friend’s house,” he writes. “I told my parents [and] friends, and they say I should have just paid it. Now I’m having second thoughts if I overreacted. [Am I The A – – hole]?”

Reddit readers rushed to assure him that he’s not the donkey of this scenario.

“She’s such an a – – hole,” wrote an incensed commenter about the man’s other half.

“Your wife should have talked to you about it before telling her friends you’d pay, not assume,” penned another supporter.

“The audacity,” said a third, in part. “It sounds to me like your wife doesn’t want a spouse, she wants a sugar daddy, who will treat her and her friends … Seek marriage counseling, or a divorce if this is frequent behavior.”

“This is so sexist of her yuck,” added an equally perturbed reader.

But the man quickly came to his woman’s defense.

“Hi guys, I’ve read someone comments [asking] if my wife has ever acted like this. And she never has,” he clarified.

“I’ve decided to go talk to her tomorrow about what happened, why she did [set me up to pay the bill],” said the husband, adding that the $200 he left on the table in anger didn’t even cover the cost of their two meals.

“I should have added another $50-$75 to make it the price of two people,” he admitted before acknowledging that he also stiffed the wait staff on their tips.

“For the people who say I forgot to tip,” wrote the man, “I go there regularly with my co-workers (each pay for their own plate) and always leave a good tip.”

Sadly, the argument over how a dinner bill should be fairly divided is an ongoing beef between loved ones and friends.

In July, a group of chums virally fought over the splitting of the $4,600 check they incurred during a birthday celebration at a posh eatery. And in June 2022, a couple sparked a vicious debate on TikTok after the guy refused to pay his ladylove’s bill at Applebee’s once he learned that sex wasn’t on the menu.

“You guys, he’s making me pay for my food, because I won’t have sex with him,” whines the woman in her trending TikTok tell-all. “That’s a sad shame.”

People actually want to enjoy good meals and drinks but never want to pay for them, they expect someone else to foot their bills at restaurants all because they are women and feel entitled.
