USFL Has Filed For The National Spring Football League (NSFL) Trademark

As an avid consumer of all things American football, the idea of having football to watch year round has always had me banging the table in support. That’s what both the XFL & USFL gave us, during the spring. A fun, healthy alternative to enjoy while the NFL went into its offseason. Though the level of talent was severely lesser, and the lack of fans in attendance for games, the way it was presented made it enjoyable.

We’ve heard rumblings about a possible merger between the XFL & USFL for weeks now. Here’s what we know about that so far, courtesy of The Detroit News:

“Significant discussions are ongoing about merging the country’s two professional football spring leagues, the United States Football League and the XFL, by as early as next season.

USFL leadership has been informing coaches and personnel recently that “those talks are taking place,” a source with direct knowledge of the conversations told The News. The source, who isn’t authorized to speak for the leagues, said they were told the merger could happen as soon as 2024 and as late as 2025.”

On Tuesday, thanks to Mike Kondoudis, we got the latest news that suggest the merger talks are moving quickly. Kondoudis reports that the USFL has officially filed 22 new trademark applications for the National Spring Football League (NSFL).

Other filings include these three points:

Clothing, Footwear, and Headwear
Broadcasting and Entertainment Services
Multimedia + NFTs

Question remains whether all 16-teams between the two brands will be carried over into the merger. Though I personally hope they keep all 16, the merger itself is still an exciting prospect to think about, considering how both brands gave us good products separately. Both brands have had its players scouted by the NFL. The St. Louis Battlehawks were a team that had multiple players signed to NFL rosters ahead of NFL Training Camp this year. Former USFL New Jersey Generals star Kavonte Turpin has found himself a home with the Dallas Cowboys after showcasing his speed & play making ability.

Remains to be seen if they’ll deliver an even better product together, but excitement for this should be high.
