Ahead of Deadline, the Broncos Have Made 6 of Its Star Players Available in Trade Talks

It looks like the Denver Broncos are prepared to hold a major fire sale in advance of the NFL trading deadline on Tuesday.

Denver is 2-5 going into its Week 8 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, despite having a roster full of talented players on both sides of the ball. They will therefore probably be in high demand in the near future.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated wrote a post in which he said he thought the Broncos should “cut bait” with quarterback Russell Wilson in 2024. Breer also stated that the Broncos are considering offers for six of their best players, which include All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II and standout wide receivers Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy:

“After that’s done, I do think Denver will undergo a more thorough retooling, with Payton captaining all of it. Which is why the Broncos are going to listen to trade inquiries on Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Garett Bolles, Josey Jewell, Justin Simmons and even Patrick Surtain II over the next six days. The Broncos aren’t close, they need picks and it makes sense exploring getting more.”

It’s clear that these six guys are not to blame for the Broncos’ continuous problems. But it’s evident that the Broncos lack the depth and young players necessary to compete in the AFC, despite having players like Justin Simmons, Surtain II, Sutton, and Jeudy.

Considering all that GM George Paton lost out on in the disastrous trade for Wilson 19 months ago, it makes perfect sense for him to transfer a number of his best players in exchange for significant draft picks.

The once-proud Broncos organization has had one winning season (in 2016) and zero postseason berths since winning Super Bowl 50 eight seasons ago. Denver should just give up on the season and rebuild for 2024 at this pace.
