On Sunday afternoon, the New England Patriots were defeated by the Dallas Cowboys in more ways than one.
Christian Gonzalez, a first-round rookie cornerback, is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season due to a major shoulder injury, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Gonzalez dislocated his shoulder and tore his labrum while making a tackle in the opening frame of Sunday’s 38-3 defeat, according to Rapoport. He will soon have surgery.
The trade for JC Jackson was necessary because… #Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez, who would have been a candidate for defensive rookie of the year, is likely to miss the rest of the 2023 season with a torn labrum from a dislocated shoulder on Sunday, sources say. Gonzalez’s first professional season went off to a good start. In his first four games, he recorded 17 tackles, one sack, one interception, and three passes defended.
J.C. Jackson, a former Patriot and cornerback for the Los Angeles Chargers, was acquired by New England this morning in a move meant to help the team cope with the loss of Gonzalez.
Gonzalez was injured, but the Patriots also lost their outstanding pass rusher Matthew Judon to a torn right lower biceps tendon, which is expected to keep him out for a while.
The 1-3 New England Patriots will take on the 2-2 New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.
