LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne is taking her security matters seriously following the bizarre incident with fans. According to Dunne, she will now have a security guard protecting her from wild fans who want to harass and be nasty during LSU gymnastics.
Next time, you won’t have the space to be around Olivia Dunne if you are a fan. Y’all are now restricted.
LSU superstar Olivia Dunne will have a personal security guard for her final collegiate gymnastics season.
The move comes after a frightening incident at the University of Utah in January when a number of unruly fans of Dunne disrupted the meet in Salt Lake City.
A large group of young men held posters and a full-size cutout of the injured Dunne, disrupting routines of the other athletes by chanting: “We want Livvy! Give us Livvy!”
The teenage boys also stood outside arena after the meet and continued to scream her name, frightening a number of female gymnasts and their families.
According to Sports Illustrated, LSU moved its bus away from the overzealous fans while police also made their presence felt to improve Dunne’s safety.
At the time, Dunne tweeted a message at her fans in response.
She wrote: “I will always appreciate and love the support from you guys.
“But if you come to a meet, I want to ask you to please be respectful of the other gymnasts and the gymnastics community as we are just doing our job.”
Now the LSU team will have their own security guard to try to prevent such an incident from happening again.
“We haven’t competed since last season, so we’ll see what this season holds,” Dunne told People.
“But after the incident in Utah that happened last year, we now have a security guard that travels with the LSU gymnastics team.”
Utah gymnast Jillian Hoffman was also scared by the crazed fans.
“I am a mother of a Utah gymnast, as we were walking to the car the group swarmed my daughter and her teammate,” Hoffman’s mother Jennifer wrote on social media..
“They literally said to their faces, you are not Livvy but you will do, can we get a picture.
“[The group] also called my daughter Livvy 2.0. They were so rude and disrespectful.”
Dunne is among the highest-earning college athletes in the country due to her lofty 13 million online fans.
She has a net worth of $2.3 million as the 21-year-old has multiple NIL deals.
Dunne recently went public with MLB star boyfriend Paul Skenes.
She said she’s “still learning” how to balance her private life with her public digital one.
“I’ve definitely learned over the past few years that, this past year mostly, that keeping certain things private is OK,” Dunne told People.
Olivia Dunne underestimated her popularity and things got messy when the fans realized she was present. Now, she is moving with a security guard for her own safety.
