The Bucs Could Be Interesting in Bill Belichick

Should the famous head coach decide to leave the New England Patriots, an intriguing NFC team has been mentioned as a potential destination for Bill Belichick.

Following his hiring as head coach in 2020, Belichick’s Patriots have lost seven of their first nine games and appear headed for their worst record to date. Numerous people believe that owner Robert Kraft will fire the most successful head coach in NFL history since the Pats are poised for their third losing and non-playoff season in the last four years.

In a recent episode of Ira Kaufman’s podcast, staff members of JoeBucsFan.com and Kaufman discussed the possibility of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers pursuing Belichick (via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk).

During the podcast, they raised a number of noteworthy points: Former New England Patriots quarterback Brady, Belichick and Tampa General Manager Jason Licht are represented by the same agency, and the Bucs management has long placed a premium on hiring high-profile head coaches.

Belichick and the Patriots reached an enormous contract deal during the offseason, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport last month. However, if the Pats keep falling apart, Kraft might not think twice about changing coaches in this results-driven industry.

There would be no shortage of teams interested in signing Belichick if he and the Patriots parted ways. It’s possible that some teams might even fire their head coach in order to sign the 71-year-old.

Belichick’s priority right now is getting his squad ready for the Week 10 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
