To the surprise of no one, the Raiders fired head coach Josh McDaniels after a 9-16 start to his tenure.
It wasn’t just a win/loss thing though. McDaniels simply wasn’t a good head coach and he wasn’t well liked.
There have been lots of rumors on how and why he was fired from simply just having a talk with owner Mark Davis to him finding out by opening up a fortune cookie from PF Changs that said he was fired.
The latter probably isn’t true or we at least likely won’t know if it is but what we do know is how much it took for Davis to make McDaniels go away. And it’s a lot.
“With four and a half years on Josh [McDaniels] contract, and roughly $45 million [left on the deal], Mark Davis wanted stability within the organization and he was trying desperately to believe in the direction it was going,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast on Wednesday.

Writing a $45 million check just so someone goes away sound crazy and that lets everyone know just how bad the situation was.
