Colby Covington Can Seek Conor McGregor Fight

Colby Covington is all set to have a third attempt at the welterweight title against Leon Edwards on December 16 at UFC 296. Having lost the first two against Kamaru Usman, ‘Chaos’ is on the brink of entering a career-defining matchup. Beating Edwards can be a demanding task. Meanwhile, top-rated 170-pounder Gilbert Burns cited the aftermath of UFC 296 if Colby Covington wins.

Burns recently sat down with TMZ Sports and addressed several things. He went on to predict Colby Covington’s approach after UFC 296 if Leon Edwards loses the bout.

Gilbert Burns said,  “If Colby [Covington] wins, he might get a rematch or he might get crazy, trying to pitch a fight against Conor McGregor or a super fight against Islam or I don’t know. I think if Colby wins, he goes a little bit out of the way because he is going to try to make the most money  and he should as a champion.”

Colby Covington has had a brief verbal banter with Conor McGregor in the past. There’s no denying that, ‘Notorious’ vs ‘Chaos’ would be an interesting and lucrative bout for both sides involved. Nevertheless. That fight is still miles away from the making as McGregor can possibly return to 155 lbs next.

UFC Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev has wanted to compete for the welterweight title, aiming to become a two-division world champion. If Colby Covington gets his hands on the bet, he might have to come across Islam Makhachev somewhere down the line. Besides, the 170 lbs division will continue to offer top-rated challengers to the champion after UFC 296.

Henceforth, a lot of it depends on what happens in the last evet of UFC this year. Other than the wekterweight title fight, Alexandre Pantoja will defend hi UFC flyweight title against Brandon Rovyal in the co-main. Here’s a look at the complete fight card.
