Gilbert Arenas asks Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley to support Zion Williamson in his weight loss journey.
Arenas started the discussion with regards to Williamson’s rebuttal of the critique, in which the young basketball player thanked him for his good-natured remarks. Arenas expressed a similar opinion and advised that the two legends of basketball are the best to provide advice for Zion in regards to his weight concerns.
“If Charles Barkley and Shaq, if what they are declaring is from a place of good faith I’m happy for them. If not, …” Arenas ‘ first thought, in reference to Shaq’s personal struggles over weight issues during the past. “Both of y’all had weight problems. Y’all should be talking to him because y’all had weight problems. You yourself was 415 and you had to get down to 285,” Arenas made sure to point in reference to Shaq’s own personal struggles.
Kenyon Martin quickly added his voice, noting Kenyon Martin’s comments, pointing out that Charles Barkley had experienced weight problems, but not during his time playing for his team, the Philadelphia 76ers. He encouraged Barkley to reveal his techniques for weight management, and he pointed out the sharp contrast between his strategies between the two teams when Barkley was signed by his team the Phoenix Suns. “So, Charles, how did you control it? When you got to Phoenix, that wasn’t the Charles that played in Philly,” Martin demanded.

Arenas kept the conversation lighthearted in a joking manner, noting the fact that Barkley has increased his weight since leaving the 76ers back in 1992. “And what did you do in Houston to get that big? What did you do wrong? Tell him not to do this,” Arenas humorously stated, stressing the need for Barkley to be wary Williamson of the possible pitfalls.
The essence of the matter is that Arenas believes that O’Neal as well as Barkley due to their own experience, are well placed to provide advice and assistance for Zion Williamson. Arenas also suggested that Barkley ought to share the experiences he’s learned and highlight those things “he should not do.” Martin took part in the conversation and was jokingly referring to an incident similar to the reverse “Uno” card being played in their exchange.
