One of the 49ers’ original faces is returning to the squad.
Jason Verrett observed his old team’s 28-16 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday from a suite at Levi’s Stadium. According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, the free-agent cornerback has decided to rejoin the 49ers and will report directly to the practice squad this week, so he will be playing for the team instead of just being a fan.
The #49ers are signing CB Jason Verrett to their practice squad, sources tell @BleacherReport.
The former Pro Bowler previously spent three years in SF and was at the #Seahawks' game today.

It will be beneficial to have a veteran like Verrett in the building, and San Francisco has been considering him for a few weeks. According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, the group was attempting to sign the seasoned CB.
It had been well over a year since Verrett’s Achilles injury during a 49ers practice. His recovery from the ACL injury he suffered in the first week of the 2021 season was put on hold by that injury. With any luck, the third time will be lucky.
For the Niners, who might be missing starting cornerback Charvarius Ward due to a groin injury sustained during San Francisco’s victory against Seattle, Verrett could offer some insurance. Not without reason, since the 49ers are aware of Verrett’s ability to perform at a high level when healthy. They will have some experience with their depth.
