In the Houston Texans‘ week 14 loss to the New York Jets, second-year quarterback Davis Mills took over at quarterback after CJ Stroud suffered a concussion.
Given that Mills has been ranked second on the depth chart the whole season and that he started for the Texans as a rookie last year, this move was expected.
But in a dismal relief performance, he only managed to complete one of his five pass attempts for a mere four yards. That might have been sufficient for the Texans to determine that he isn’t the quarterback they want starting in week 15 against the Tennessee Titans.
The Texans are reportedly choosing Case Keenum over Brandon Mills as quarterback because of his “big-game experience.”
Even though Keenum hasn’t started a game since the 2021 season, when he was a member of the Cleveland Browns, the Texans seem to have a lot of faith in him.
Keenum did end up with a 2-0 record in his two games with the Browns in 2021. As a starter, the 35-year-old has a 29-35 career record. On Sunday, he’ll be aiming for victory number thirty.
