John Harbaugh of the Ravens Reveals How Tough It Is to Plan for Patrick Mahomes : “He’s Special!”

Patrick Mahomes

In the AFC title game, the Baltimore Ravens take on the Kansas City Chiefs, and head coach John Harbaugh is aware of how tough it will be to contain Patrick Mahomes.

Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes will square off against the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game to determine who gets to play in the Super Bowl.

With the Chiefs performing well enough on the road in Buffalo and the Ravens dominating the Houston Texans after a strong second half, the two teams square up with everything on the line.

John Harbaugh speaks about Patrick Mahomes

Baltimore needs to defeat Mahomes in order to get it to its first Super Bowl since 2012. It is nearly known as the Patrick Mahomes Invitational because he has attended the AFC Championship game each of the six seasons he has started.

Because Mahomes can prolong plays with his legs, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is aware of how difficult it is to contain a quarterback of his caliber. Harbaugh said,

“I mean you got to factor it in, the fact that he extends plays,” “He buys time, he buys time to run sometimes, buys time to throw, he’s just a really elusive guy. You’ll see in space sometimes will make guys miss and all that so you know it’s just Patrick Mahomes. He’s unique, plays his own brand of football, been very successful. We’ll just have to study him and do our best to try to keep him under wraps.”

Given that Mahomes has only been sacked twice and hasn’t thrown an interception in his previous three games, it does appear like a difficult task to bench him.

However, this season, the Ravens’ defense has been oppressive. Macdonald’s team forced 12 turnovers in the final four games of the regular season. Against C.J. Stroud and the Texans, they were unable to force one, but the pressure they applied was excellent as Stroud was sacked three times.

It is necessary to use more of it against Mahomes and the Chiefs. He will mash up the Ravens secondary if given enough time, but that’s when the dreaded pass rush enters the picture.
