The 49ERS’ Interest in 2023 Asked to Tom Brady and His Reply Will Surprise You

Brock Purdy stated in a story on ESPN.com two weeks ago that the team wanted to sign Tom Brady as their starting quarterback in 2023. This was according to coach Kyle Shanahan. Even though Purdy and Shanahan gave several press appearances, no one had questioned Purdy about his remarks since.

It was eventually brought up to someone. It was Brady. Pat McAfee questioned Brady about Purdy’s report that the 49ers were interested in Brady during a Tuesday media tour discussing the merger of TB12 and Nobull.

The 49ers’ desire to sign Brady was not mentioned by Brady directly. Brady said,

“In this last season, there’s a lot of different things that people would suggest, but I kind of just kept my mind focused on where I wanted to go,” “Again, this was a great year for me to sit back and watch and learn and get prepared for being in the Fox booth next year.”

Brady left a lot of options open last year regarding a possible comeback to the NFL in 2023, as Chris Simms stated on PFT Live. In the end, he chose not to participate.

After 20 years with the Patriots, Brady became a free agent and chose the 49ers as his first option three years prior. The 49ers responded at that point with, “No thanks.”
