Dustin Poirier suffered a horrific loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 291, losing his chance to grab the BMF belt. That said, he is still a top lightweight, capable of grabbing the big fights. The lightweight division is currently stacked with Porier standing at a distant from the title shot.
Hence, ‘Diamond’ shall have to build his status towards earning the title shot. While he seems poised to make a comeback in 2024, a potential fight against Nate Diaz is not on the cards for him. UFC 300 in April was being touted as the platform to host Poirier vs Diaz by the MMA fans.
Dustin Poirier subbed all those claims on social media, and is yet to announce his next fight.

The former UFC Interim LW Champion wrote, “No, It Ain’t happening [Poirier vs Diaz].”
Nate Diaz is currently out of the UFC. He submitted Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 and parted ways with the promotion. Following a boxing scrap against Jake Paul which turned out to be a loss, Diaz has hinted at making a comeback to the UFC. Meanwhile, talks of a potential trilogy between him and Conor McGregor were also floating around a few weeks back. Hence, Dustin Poirier seemingly clarified his stance of not having any negotiation with Diaz.
Meanwhile, Dana White has expressed his intentions of putting on an exciting card for UFC 300. As of now, Leon Edwards looks likely to defend his 170 lbs in April while the other bouts are still under process.

Who Should Dustin Poirier Face Next?
Despite his loss to Gaethje, Dustin Poirier is the third-ranked UFC lightweight. While Islam Makhachev holds the title, Charles Oliveira, Arman Tsarukyan and Justin Gaethje are marching towards getting a title shot.
Amidst all of these names, Poirier can either go against Oliveira or Tsarukyan to reclaim his lost position. Or else, Gamrot can also be a potential opponent for ‘Diamond’. 34-year-old Poirier may have one last run at the 155 lbs gold. He can also move up to the 170 lbs category and aim at fresh matchups.
Not to forget, Conor McGregor had vowed to face Dustin Poirier for a fourth time after the fight ended die to the Irishman’s leg injury at UFC 264. Hence, that is also an option available for Poirier.
