Since the NFL has filled all eight coaching positions, Mike Vrabel, the former coach of the Tennessee Titans, may not be joining any teams this season.
Mike Vrabel, the former coach of the Tennessee Titans, has been excluded from the 2024 NFL hiring cycle. Vrabel was interviewed at least twice, but the teams decided to go in different routes. Additionally, Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn was named head coach of the Washington Commanders on Thursday.
Despite two straight losing seasons, most observers anticipated that Vrabel, the former NFL Coach of the Year, would have no trouble finding a new coaching position when Amy Adams Strunk announced his departure on January 9.
What’s next for Mike Vrabel
After interviewing with Vrabel, the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers selected defensive coordinators Raheem Morris from the Rams and Dave Canales from the Bucs.
The Los Angeles Chargers conducted interviews with Vrabel as well. If the franchise decided not to hire Jim Harbaugh, the NCAA national champion and former Michigan coach, Vrabel was the next best option, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Vrabel led the Titans to three straight postseason appearances in six seasons, including an AFC Championship Game defeat to eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City.
Vrabel may decide to forego the 2024 season in favor of a career in broadcasting. If he chooses to stay in football, he may work as an analyst for a college coaching staff if he doesn’t accept an NFL defensive coordinator position.
