During his first several NBA seasons, Mikal Bridges primarily served as a high-level role player for the Phoenix Suns. However, after being moved to the Nets, everything changed. His main role in the transaction that moved Kevin Durant from Brooklyn to Phoenix was to set him up.
Since Cameron Johnson and Mikal are good friends, the deal included them both, which eased the transition for both players. Following the deal, they got in touch with one another right away, as Mikal revealed when he appeared on the Roommates Show with Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson.
Mikal said,
“I was in Atlanta, and I’m in a hotel, probably one o’clock in the mirror… My first reaction was oh my god, and I laughed. That’s when I tweeted then Cam called me,” “The whole team sitting there basically like the Last Supper. It’s crazy… I didn’t know what to think, but I’m always weird; I always wanted to see how it was like getting traded.”
Mikal came to terms with being a Brooklyn Player
Being one of the greatest NBA players of all time, Mikal considers it an honor to have been traded for KD. Mikal spent the first five years of his career in Phoenix, so leaving was difficult for him.
Being the star in a new location would be difficult for most athletes, especially if you have great expectations, like Mikal had. After embracing his role as the go-to player in Brooklyn for just a year, the former Villanova Wildcat is now regarded as a key member of the team.
Mikal is a key component of the Nets’ long-term success strategy.
