A pivotal point in Saquon Barkley‘s uncertain future with the New York Giants has been reached.
Although there is still time left, Barkley and the Giants are well aware that valuable seconds are ebbing away with each passing day. It’s crunch time now. Barkley, a pending free agent once more, will soon make a choice on the NFL’s franchise tag window, which opened on Tuesday.

The Giants have until 4 p.m. on March 5 to tag Barkley a second time. During that two-week window, general manager Joe Schoen and Barkley’s representatives are anticipated to offer some clarification that will dictate the next course of action for both parties.
For the second straight offseason, it would seem improbable that the Giants would tag Barkley, and Schoen has publicly stated nothing to the contrary on the franchise tag and its implications, particularly with regard to the salary cap.
When asked about the franchise tag in reference to safety Xavier McKinney, another potential free agency, during his season-ending news conference on January 8, Schoen responded as follows:
“It’s not something I want to use on a year in and year out basis, but it’s a tool at our disposal,”
