Malcolm Butler, a former NFL star who is most known for his last-second interception that helped the Patriots win Super Bowl XLIX, was arrested earlier this month in Rhode Island, according to TMZ Sports.
Documents from the North Providence Police Department state that Butler was arrested back on March 16 after he allegedly showed signs of driving under the influence during a traffic encounter. At approximately 3:22 AM, according to police, they initially pulled over his white Mercedes-Benz because they said the driver was obstructing traffic by stopping in a travel lane.
Butler said in the documents that he hadn’t been drinking because he was leaving a studio where he had been recording music.

However, authorities claim he had a heavy alcohol stench to his breath. They further claim that he had “severely bloodshot watery eyes” and that his speech was “extremely slurred.” In the documents, police also noted that he was “sweating profusely in the face.”
Butler allegedly refused to submit to a field sobriety test, which led to Butler’s arrest and subsequent DUI prosecution. Later this week, he is expected in court for a hearing related to the matter.
Butler was an NFL player from 2014 to 2020, with the Titans being his final team. During his career, the 34-year-old collected 406 total tackles and 17 interceptions in 100 games. He also won two Super Bowls.
