The roast of Tom Brady was a huge hit. It was a new scenario for guys like Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, but the comedians did what they do best. Still, they made a move and delivered some quite clever jabs. Even while they exuded confidence during the roast, they did experience some anxiety prior to the roast.
In an interview with “The Pat McAfee Show,” Julian Edelman captured the anxiety that pervaded everyone before the show. He described the mood as,
“It was 100% like a locker room before a game. Guys are sitting there making a little joke here or there but then you’d see a guy run off to the corner to go look at his jokes and practice his jokes. Gronk went to the bathroom like four times I think to run his jokes. ”
Similar to what a locker room usually looks like before a game, Edelman remembers some backstage tension. Bill Belichick, Gronk, Randy Moss, Drew Bledsoe, and Edelman described the heated backstage environment.
That wasn’t all, though. After seeing everyone from his former Patriots days in one location, there was also some anxiety.
