The Brooklyn Nets‘ Ben Simmons served as our first reminder that the Met Gala red carpet never lets us down, dressed to the nines like a Thom Browne. With his ridiculous accessory—a briefcase clock—Simmons perfectly fulfilled at least part of this year’s dress code, which is The Garden of Time.
Simmons’s bag takes tonight’s topic rather literally, but the Met has never presented honors for subtlety. A straightforward two-hand clock is housed inside the center hollowed out of the hard-sided attaché. Tyla wore an hourglass on the carpet tonight, so there will be a lot of accessories with a time theme.
Simmons is sporting more than one timepiece in addition to the briefcase clock. He wore a Patek Philippe Aquanaut watch with a rainbow bezel studded with gems. That will count as another allegory for the Garden of Time—rainbows are another amazing natural phenomenon!
The “garden” portion of the theme is covered by the remainder of Simmons’s Thom Browne ensemble. The overcoat has a vine growing from the bottom hem with a flower blooming at the top, and it has a tartan design that looks like it spilled over the shoulders. Ben Simmons gave us our first taste of what the Met is all about on a night that will surely be loaded with outlandish Mad Hatter-inspired ensembles.
