Paul Pierce Likens JJ Redick To An IG Model While Discussing Him As A Potential Lakers Lakers Head Coach

Folks, grab your popcorn because the NBA drama just keeps on coming. In a recent discussion, Paul Pierce made quite a comparison when discussing the possibility of JJ Redick becoming the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. According to Pierce, Redick would be like an Instagram model – looking good on the surface but lacking substance underneath.

Now, before you start fuming, let’s break it down a bit. Pierce isn’t saying that Redick isn’t a great player or that he lacks coaching potential. It’s more about the perception versus reality. Just like how an Instagram model may look flawless in their pictures, but you never really know what’s going on behind the scenes, Redick might have the appearance of a good coach, but we can’t be sure until he steps into the role.

“You hear ’em, they sound great, they drawing plays- sounds like the right thing to do, sounds like he has a great IQ, sounds like he has a voice, maybe a demeanor for coaching,” Pierce said. “It’s like an Instagram model. It looks good all on the air, but when you see it in person, it ain’t what you think.”

The former Celtic isn’t alone in his concerns; Channing Frye also expressed reservations about Redick, albeit for different reasons. The 2016 NBA Champ believes that although JJ has potential, the Lakers might not be his ideal coaching destination.

He points out that the former Blue Devil wouldn’t have enough time to learn from mistakes and develop his coaching acumen, constantly being pressured to achieve instant success. This pressure could cause even the most experienced coaches to fail to produce their best.

“To be honest, I think it’s a death sentence. I think he’s jumping on a grenade… You’re jumping in and not only coaching in the NBA when you haven’t ever done that before, but you’re also coaching Anthony Davis, D’Angelo Russell, LeBron James,” Frye said. “You need to bring in somebody who’s gonna command that locker room and who’s gonna say, ‘Bron, I understand what you wanna do, but this is my vision for the roster that we have.’… As a first-year coach, I wouldn’t recommend that job for anybody.”

At the end of the day, whether you agree with Pierce or not, one thing is for sure – the NBA never fails to entertain us with its twists and turns. So let’s just sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Who knows, maybe Redick will prove everyone wrong and become the next coaching sensation. Only time will tell.
