Carson Wentz‘s career took a huge turn in April 2024 when he signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs, after spending eight seasons playing for four different teams. Wentz, the second overall choice in the 2016 Draft, is currently Patrick Mahomes‘ backup quarterback. The addition of the 31-year-old is beneficial since it lessens Mahomes’ workload. The quarterback also believes that the Chiefs can succeed with Wentz.
Following the required minicamp on Thursday, Mahomes gave a talk in which he described the expertise of his backup quarterback and outlined the reasons he is a wise pick.
Patrick Mahomes speaks about Carson Wentz
The three-time MVP said the eleven-year veteran is a “great dude” who is “super talented” and “asks a lot of questions.”. He said,
“You see why he was on pace to win the MVP. You see, the guy can make every throw, he is smart, intelligent, asks a lot of questions, and he is been in similar offenses before. So it’s easy for him to pick it up I think. But I mean, he is super talented. That’s the first thing I saw.”
In eight NFL seasons, the former star of the Eagles and Rams has passed for 22,292 yards and 153 touchdowns. Nevertheless, after spending five years in Philadelphia, he was unable to consistently play for any team, which caused problems in his career. In 2023, he even had to bide his time as a free agent.
Remarkably, the North Carolina native scored three touchdowns against the 49ers in the one game he played for the Rams in the 2023–24 season, demonstrating his form. The Chiefs quarterback room also includes Matt Moore and Chad Henne in addition to Mahomes and Wentz.
But because of his track record and expertise, the former quarterback for the Bison has locked up the No. 2 place. In the meantime, Wentz discussed what he has seen from Chiefs future Hall of Famer Patrick Mahomes and what makes him unique during the June 7 press conference following the practice.
