In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, former NBA player Charles Barkley eagerly recalled his delightful surprise when he received an expensive watch from Tom Brady. The sentimental gift was brought up once more this week when TB12, who is switching from gridiron to the commentary box, spoke with the same interviewer. It turns out that there was a lot of emotion behind the gift.
During his conversation with Jimmy Traina of “SI Media,” Brady was quite clear in saying that Charles has been a wonderful friend and motivator. So it was only fitting that he should do this kind action. Brady said,
“I love Charles. He’s been a great friend and a supporter,”. “So, I don’t know man, if I could do nice things for people then I try to do it.”
Charles Barkley speaks about admiration for Tom Brady
So, how did the entire tale come to pass? Barkley declined to comment when Jimmy Traina asked him if Brady had lately contacted him for broadcasting advice. Rather, the NBA legend told a tale that emphasized his admiration for Brady.
Barkley began by revealing that the $250,000 watch he was sporting on the podcast was reportedly a gift from the seven-time champion himself. Barkley, commentating on Brady’s participation in “The Match,” a charity golf tournament, couldn’t help but notice the watch he was wearing.
He wasn’t prepared, though, for one of Brady‘s teammates to come up to him later on bearing the watch. He said,
“As a matter of fact, see this watch here? I’ve been offered $250,000 for this watch,”. “So I’m broadcasting, probably four or five years ago, I make a nice comment about this watch and this watch is a pretty penny. I’m talking double-digit thousands. I said, ‘That’s a nice watch.’ [Brady] says, ‘Thanks, Chuck,’ blah blah blah. We do the broadcast for another two or three hours. One of Tom’s boys comes up to me and he says, ‘Hey Tom is looking for you.’”
Given this, Barkley added that he has gotten offers for the watch from collectors totaling $250,000. But he did decline their offer because the gesture and the memories meant more to him than the cash. Having said that, it’s important to note that the former Patriots player occasionally receives gifts.
