Brock Purdy Will Be the Highest-Paid Quarterback in the NFL by 2026 Claims Insider

Despite helping the San Francisco 49ers win two NFC Championship Games and a Super Bowl, Brock Purdy‘s four-year, $3.73 million rookie scale contract still leaves him glaringly undervalued. However, Ian Rapoport believes that this will all alter according on how well he performs going forward.

Once Purdy establishes himself as the 49ers’ starting quarterback, his potential salary might skyrocket beyond the remaining terms of his deal. As stated by NFL Network National Insider, it makes perfect sense to extend Purdy’s contract with a big payout. Nonetheless, how well he does in the 2024 NFL season could determine his average yearly salary:

“When it is time to talk contract extension and of course, he’s not eligible yet. He’s eligible after this season after the regular season ends; it seems like the 49ers have a no-brainer here. It’s not like, well, are they going to extend him? Are they going to give him a big contract? He has proven that he is their franchise guy.”

Can Brock Purdy actually earn record wages by 2026?

How much Brock Purdy can improve on his Pro Bowl 2023 season, in which he finished with 308 completions for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns, is the only unanswered question. The former star player for Iowa State added two scores on the ground after 144 yards of rushes.

Purdy has demonstrated that he is performing well on his own merits, in spite of the persistent accusation that his stats were inflated by playing with All-Pro players like Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, and George Kittle. Thus, if he has another strong season, the 49ers should be inclined to give him a contract similar to the five-year, $275 million deal that Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow agreed to. San Francisco will have him behind center for his prime years if they accomplish this.

Fortunately for him, Jed York, the CEO of the Niners, has no qualms about paying Purdy among the highest-paid quarterbacks. At the league’s annual meetings, he addressed the media and described having your quarterback be one of the highest-paid players as a “good problem.” But because of the league’s hard cap, their investment on him might limit their capacity to make improvements in other roster places.
