Though he enjoys a good statement, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has run into some controversy with NCAA football fans after his most recent press conference.
For the first time since 2024, Sanders spoke to the gathered media on Wednesday. Coach Prime is already facing backlash on social media for his position on player remuneration, even though the next college football season is still several weeks away.
Deion Sanders was trolled for his hypocrisy
Sanders expressed worries on Wednesday about players abusing their name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights, the transfer site, and the skyrocketing amount of player remuneration.
Whether right or wrong, Sanders has come to represent this new chapter in college recruiting history. He brought his sons Shedeur and Shilo from his time as head coach at Jackson State University, and since joining Colorado, Coach Prime has made extensive use of transfers to rebuild the program.

“I love these kids are compensated for what they bring to the table. I don’t want them to put the bag before the game. If you have the game, the bag is gonna come. I just don’t want to take away the purity of this wonderful game”

Given that Deion has never shied away from a life of luxury and Shedeur has an opulent existence, fans on X/Twitter almost instantly criticized Sanders for his remarks. If Sanders continued to advocate for players to prioritize football above money, a user predicted that “lightning (would) strike him.”
At some point, Sanders is going to say something like that at a press conference and lightning is going to strike him.

Nevertheless, Sanders has never been one to take offense to criticism.
