The head coach of the University of Colorado football team, Deion Sanders, unexpectedly reached out to the campus police on Monday. Sanders went above and beyond by giving each member of the team a personalized Coach Prime cowboy hat in addition to praising the police for their hard work in holding his players accountable.
The Buffaloes football team and the CU campus police have never gotten along well in the past, mostly because of parking-related problems. Notable events demonstrated that no one is above the law, such as Coach Prime getting a parking ticket and Shedeur Sanders’ $400,000 Rolls-Royce being booted.
Sanders, though, made the decision to move past his past. He acknowledged the police’s contribution to upholding discipline among his players on Monday and commended them for their efforts.
Thanks for the fashion tip @DeionSanders!
Our dress code now allows for certain #CowboyHats!

We bet you’ll see more hats on other Officers and RSOs soon! 🤠#CoachPrime pic.twitter.com/1VtqPHfNPz— CU Boulder Police (@CUBoulderPolice) July 8, 2024
The CU police department thanked Sanders for the wardrobe advice in a post on X that featured a picture of an officer donning a cowboy hat. In response, Sanders was cordial and offered to get unique cowboy hats made for the entire department.
Deion Sanders supports the university police
Sanders wrote on X,
“I need an Official Police Cowboy Hat! I can supply your entire staff with cowboy hats if needed. Let me know. The entire staff has supported our team and challenged them to do right at all times. I’m forever grateful,”
The football team’s and campus police’s relationship took a turn for the better after this kind gesture. Sanders conveyed his appreciation for the law enforcement’s assistance, both during and after games. Sanders had just returned from spending the Fourth of July holiday in South Beach, so this exchange felt like a perfect “welcome home” moment.
With the return of attention to football, the Buffaloes are preparing for the next campaign. As Colorado moves into the Big 12, they want to improve on their 4-8 record from the previous season. It is scheduled for late next month to play North Dakota State in the season opener.
