Over the past year, Jordan Love‘s climb has been nothing short of spectacular. Love takes over as the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers in 2023 after displaying very nothing in his previous three NFL seasons. He had an incredibly unexpected season.
Love combined that with his amazing arm talent and strong athleticism to seem more polished than he ever has. After leading the team to the second round of the playoffs, he capitalized on the opportunity to sign a huge four-year, $220 million contract, making him, together with Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence, the highest-paid player in the league.
Jordan Love feels that his growth was greatly aided by sitting behind Aaron Rodgers
Love had to wait behind Aaron Rodgers for three years on a long and patient journey. However, Love complimented Rodgers for the way it all turned out in a recent interview. He said,
“I think leaving college it’s a humbling experience. You think you’re the man, you think you got it… you get to the NFL, I’m in the room with Aaron Rodgers, one of the best to do it. And it’s a very humbling experience to be able to see: ‘all right, I don’t know anything’… I really had to start from square one, I learned so much my rookie year. If I was to start my rookie year, who knows where I’d be right now.”
In the 2020 NFL Draft, Love was selected 26th overall. At 36 years old, Aaron Rodgers was coming off of another Pro Bowl season and didn’t appear to be slowing down.
Love, however, made good use of his time spent waiting behind Rodgers to pick up knowledge from him, combine cerebral and physical reps throughout practice, and develop into the close to exceptional quarterback he proved to be in 2023. The important thing going forward will be to do it regularly.
